Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes acupuncture, is a complete medical system that dates back more than 2,500 years. TCM uses its own system of diagnosis and treatment modalities, such as acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, to heal and strengthen the body. It is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical practices in the world. One of the primary goals of TCM is to prevent disease or illness by maintaining optimal health within the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the movement of Qi (pronounced “chee”), or vital energy. Qi flows along specific pathways between the surface of the body and internal organs, forming a network of channels called meridians. Qi flows through the meridians to nourish and regulate the functioning of our body and mind.

The well-being of a person is dependent upon the abundance and proper flow of Qi. When Qi is flowing smoothly, the body and mind are nourished and good health is maintained. When the Qi is blocked or depleted, the result is pain or illness. Qi can be disrupted from stress, overwork, poor diet, lack of exercise, trauma, worry, among others. Acupuncture helps to correct internal imbalances in the body and restore the proper flow of energy, returning good health to both the body and mind.
